    Connect with the world of real estate at ULI Philadelphia’s Fall Student Networking and Career Exploration event! Join us on for the evening social on Tuesday, October 4th, 2022 for an opportunity to network with industry professionals and learn more about Urban Land Institute’s student opportunities & resources.

     

    Students, both undergraduate and graduate, will walk away with a better understanding of the many built-environment & land-use sectors in the real estate industry, how to get started, and how to connect with leaders in the industry.     Ximena Valle

    Fifteen Architecture + Design

    I am a passionate entrepreneur and experienced architect with a strong commitment to mentoring and educating future generations. My work at Mt Lykaion , alongside brilliant experts from all fields taught me the value of interdisciplinary work early in my career. I am an avid collaborator, and enjoy working with great teams to design wonderful, inspiring, places. At FIFTEEN, I lead our efforts in design practice innovation.

    David Mercuris

    Senior Vice President, Development Director, The Goldenberg Group

    David has worked  in real estate for The Goldenberg Group for 20 years. He was the development lead on Goldenberg’s first residential project, the adaptive reuse of The Ayer building from office to condominium. He has worked on number of other residential projects, student housing at Temple University, multifamily in Center City,  a variety of acquisitions for the company and participates in the People Helping People Foundation, Goldenberg’s charitable arm. He is an organizer  of St Christopher’s Hospital for Children annual Reach Out and Read Basketball Tournament which promotes literacy, feeding off his passion as a pickup basketball junky. Prior to Goldenberg, David worked at The Seagram Company Limited in Strategy and Finance. He has been involved with ULI for 20 years, and is on the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Advisory Board and Urban Plan Committee. He has a BS in Food Science and Technology from the University of California at Davis and an MBA in Finance and Accounting from Columbia University. He and his wife live in Philadelphia and love spending time with their family.

    Carol Horne Penn

    Senior Business Development Manager | Strategic Partnerships, Gilbane Building Company

    Carol Horne Penn is the senior business development manager at Gilbane Development company, focusing on Gilbane’s strategic growth in the life sciences, healthcare and institutional markets in the Greater Philadelphia area. Ms. Penn brings more than 25 years as a leader in the Philadelphia market where she has been successful in developing organizational awareness and projects. Before joining the Gilbane family, Ms. Penn led business development, corporate relations and marketing for a Philadelphia-based construction company. An attorney, Ms. Penn has held many leadership positions within Philadelphia. She has worked in real estate development leading an $8.5 million, LEED Gold office building from conception through construction and a $135 million mixed-use LEED Gold project in Center City. Ms. Penn is deeply connected to the local community and commercial real estate industry, serving as president and board member for Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW), Greater Philadelphia Chapter in 2021; vice president and board member of the Fairmount Park Conservancy; advisory committee member and past treasurer of the Community Design Collaborative; housing committee member of the Urban Land Institute, Philadelphia Chapter; and board member of SCEC Ventures. She is also an active member of the General Building Contractors Association (GBCA) serving on the government relations and diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) committees. Ms. Penn received the Philadelphia Tribune Woman of Distinction Award in 2021 and the Barristers Associates of Philadelphia Woman of Distinction Award in 2014. Ms. Penn earned a Juris Doctor from Boston College School of Law and a Bachelor of Science from Drexel University.
