Local students Brett Peanasky and Meghan Spurlock recognized for their future leadership in sustainable land use
Philadelphia, PA –June 6, 2014 – Urban Land Institute Philadelphia (ULI Philadelphia), a non-profit organization dedicated to providing leadership in the responsible use of land and in creating and sustaining thriving communities, has announced that Brett Peanasky and Meghan Spurlock have been named the 2014 recipients of the ULI Future Leaders Scholarship. Created by ULI Philadelphia’s Young Leaders Group, the scholarship is awarded annually to a graduate student ($4,000) and an undergraduate student ($2,500) who demonstrate excellence in a ULI-related field of academic study.
Winner of the $4,000 graduate-level scholarship is Brett Peanasky of Philadelphia, Pa. He is pursuing his J.D. with a specialty in Law and City Planning at the University of Pennsylvania. Peanasky seeks to combine his varied interests in architecture, city planning and law into a career in the public sector, specifically municipal and regional government.
Winner of the $2,500 undergraduate scholarship is Meghan Spurlock of Havertown, Pa., a senior at Immaculata University majoring in Business Administration and an Associate Property Manager at Liberty Property Trust. Spurlock’s plans for the future include obtaining a Real Estate license, her Master’s degree and becoming a multi-facet asset manager in the commercial real estate sector of Philadelphia.
The scholarship is funded by the generosity of ULI Philadelphia members at various fundraising events and has given out a total of $13,500 in scholarships since its inception in 2012.
“This year we were able to almost double our scholarship pool compared to the previous two years,” said Christopher M. Hager, Chair of ULI Philadelphia. “Our members’ generosity throughout the year enables us to support students whose academic excellence and career ambitions embody the ULI mission of responsible land use. Each year we are continuously impressed by our applicants and are proud to offer our support. ”
