ULI PHL’s 6th Annual Willard G. “Bill” Rouse III Awards for Excellence finalists represent superior development projects in the greater Philadelphia region that embody the ULI mission of pushing the standard of excellence in real estate and land use and creating sustainable, thriving communities.
Michael L. Prifti, FAIA, Principal, BLT Architects, lead architect for Lincoln Square, joins us for this week’s “Five Minutes with a Finalist”. Kimco Realty, Alterra Property Group and MIS Capital have been recognized as a finalist for Lincoln Square. Here’s what he had to say:
Who has had the greatest influence on your career and what was the best advice he or she gave you?
A brilliant client and now friend, taught by example the value of impeccable customer service. Externally, we strive to consistently deliver for our clients, consultants, and construction teammates regardless of the day to day challenges inherent in complex projects. Internally, we are committed to the recruitment and professional development of a team of architects, interior designers, and administrators that embraces and enhances our office culture of design excellence and “can do” attitude.
What are you most excited about in the Philadelphia area and region?
A long-time transplant from Northern Virginia, I have witnessed the city’s trajectory over the years and am excited about how Philadelphia has at long-last achieved steady population and economic growth. As a city, we’re now discussing how to accelerate collective improvement, rather than how to “turn the ship around.” I look forward to productive discourse addressing the most important challenges to our continued growth: employment & poverty; primary and secondary education & retention of college graduates; long-term tax reform.
As a ULI PHL Awards nominee, what makes you most proud of your project?
Lincoln Square succeeds at urban placemaking, capitalizing on a three-structure composition to create a significant destination at Broad Street and Washington Avenue. As BLT Architects approaches its 7th decade of practice, it also represents another debut of our 3rd generation of lead designers.
