ULI PHL’s 6th Annual Willard G. “Bill” Rouse III Awards for Excellence finalists represent superior development projects in the greater Philadelphia region that embody the ULI mission of pushing the standard of excellence in real estate and land use and creating sustainable, thriving communities.
Joseph A. Reagan, JR; SVP; 3675 Market Street in uCity Square, joins us for this week’s “Five Minutes with a Finalist”. Wexford Science + Technology has been recognized as a finalist for 3675 Market Street. Here’s what she had to say:
Who has had the greatest influence on your career and what was the best advice he or she gave you?
An architect who I worked with when I first moved to Philadelphia. Rich helped me understand how our design role as an architect was really more about helping our clients grow their business or to better serve their clients through an enhanced physical environment. How could we help them better understand how their facility needs could be transformational to their clients. That eventually changed my career path toward project management and a more outwardly facing role on the project. That advice has served me very well over the years- at the end of the day real estate is a people business.
What are you most excited about in the Philadelphia area and region?
Philadelphia has changed so much and in such a positive way. The growth and retention of our young and skilled workforce, the evolution of Center and University City as a desirable place to once again live and raise a family, recognition of our academic and life science companies as the center of gene and cell therapy research and treatment. All of these changes point to a continued growth of our economy and quality of life.
As a ULI PHL Awards nominee, what makes you most proud of your project?
3675 Market, for the first time, brings together in one building all of the innovation elements that constitute a Knowledge Community. UCity Square has for a long time provided commercial lab space, shared office and shared lab space, Quorum, our convening space, residential and retail. In 3675, those elements are now all in one place. Quorum, operated by the Science Center, shared office and shared lab space operated by Cambridge Innovation Center and BioLabs, commercial lab space for industry leaders like Amicus, Drexel’s College of Computing and Informatics, and incredible mix of talent and opportunity. With 3675 Market’s delivery, we will also be completing the street and utility infrastructure for uCity Square, opening up the development potential of 14 acres of the former University City High School- a great urban environment.
