Apply for Scholarships to ULI Fall Meeting In Chicago!

The 2013 Fall Meeting in Chicago is quickly approaching – taking place November 5-8.  This year there are two scholarship opportunities available for members: Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI) Fall Meeting Scholarship: Up to ten female Associate members (also includes under 35 and students) will be awarded complimentary registration and up to $1,500 reimbursement of expenses. Mayors Will Lead the Way

Tom Murphy is a Senior Resident Fellow at ULI and a former three-term mayor of Pittsburgh, PA.  Since January 2006, Murphy has served as ULI’s Gulf Coast liaison and was recently a speaker at the New Jersey Conference of Mayors’ annual conference in Atlantic City.   Click here to read his article in the recent New Jersey Conference of Mayors Magazine, discussing how mayors will “lead the way” in the rebuilding of New Jersey after Superstorm Sandy.

Building Healthy Places Initiative

Building Healthy Places Initiative A new ULI initiative will leverage the power of the Institute’s global networks to shape projects and places in ways that improve the health of people and communities.  ULI launched its Building Healthy Places Initiative this week with an announcement on the ULI.org homepage, a new section of the site, and lots of content. The two-year initiative will yield multiple publications, special sessions at the Fall and Spring meetings, District Council programming, and its own conference in February. Soak it Up! Urban Engineers Wins National Design Contest

Urban Engineers (Urban) is thrilled to announce that a team consisting of Urban, Mathews Nielsen Landscape Architects, and Spiezle Architectural Group has won the Commercial Retrofit Design Category of the Infill Philadelphia: Soak It Up! Competition. The team’s design submission, “Stormwater reStore,” proposes rainwater reclamation improvements to the Shopping Plaza at 3021 Grays Ferry Avenue in Philadelphia. The innovative design will serve as a prototype for future green stormwater infrastructure projects, illustrate the potential for public/private partnerships, and create awareness about the return on investment of such projects for property owners.
